President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan declared on Monday in Washington DC that the days when a few politicians, acting in concert with their hirelings and thugs, can hijack voters cards and other electoral materials, and manipulate the outcome of elections to their personal advantage are gone forever in Nigeria.
According to a press statement signed and sent to DAYLIGHTNG by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, Jonathan, while speaking at a meeting with Nigerian professionals in the United States, said that he remained fully committed to keeping the promise he made in 2011 that he will do everything possible to ensure that the elections in Nigeria become very free, fair and credible.

No tenure elongation for MD Abubakar as Jonathan settles for Suleiman Abba

Indications emerged, yesterday, in
Abuja, that President Goodluck Jonathan and the Police council made up of the
36 state governors and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mike
Mbama Okiro (IGP, rtd) have settled for the Assistant Inspector General of
Police, Zone 7, Mr. Suleiman Abba as the next Inspector General of Police when
incumbent, Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar retires tomorrow after attaining the
mandatory 35 years in service.
It was gathered that the authority
settled for AIG Abba following convincing arguments that the leadership of the
nation’s security forces will be concentrated in a particular zone of the
country should the new IG be appointed from the list of names earlier submitted
to the President.
