Peter Okoye Lola Paul Okoye MIke Adenuga |
As identical twin brothers growing up in their rustic neighbourhood of Jos,
Plateau State, they knew no other life. What was owned by one was shared by
both. Little Peter and Paul Okoye cooed at the sheer thrill of being confused
for each other by their family friends and neighbours. In that familiar cool weather that permeates the city of Jos, neighbours would usually
struggle to separate Peter from Paul. From cradle, it was clear that the
inseparable twins were special and no one dared to come in between them.
The inseparable bond that existed between the two kindred spirits was sustained
as they went through the same Primary and Secondary Schools up until they
secured admission into the University of Abuja. By then, their music career had
already been cut out and they both plunged into it with equal gusto being
careful not to outdo each other in the spotlight. A journey that led to them becoming Africa’s
most celebrated twins.
In their 33 year-old sojourn, the celebrated music stars will come face to face with a new reality on Sunday, November 17. For the first time, only one man will take the spotlight. That person is Peter Okoye. The introverted Paul will step aside and watch his more outgoing brother tie the nuptial knot with his long-time lover and mother of his two kids, Lola Omotayo. But it won’t be long before Paul and Anita Isama will follow suit, revealed our top source.
Peter without Paul
According to a source, the decision for a separate traditional marriage ceremony did not happen until after lengthy deliberations and considerations of special interests involved. An insider volunteered that the ceremony between Peter and his lover of eighth years would have happened long before now.
“Infact, Paul is the reason this ceremony waited this long. He was bidding time to make sure that his twin brother was also ready for the same thing. If Peter had done this before now, it would have piled a lot of pressure on his twin brother, something he wouldn’t want. Their plan was to hold a white-wedding ceremony together which will happen next year,” revealed our source.
Another key factor was the different cultural background of their fiancées Lola Omotayo and Paul’s partner, Anita Isama. Hear our source, “There is no chance that the families of both ladies will agree on a joint traditional marriage. But that problem won’t arise during their white-wedding.”
Peter Okoye on Marriage
In a probing interview with EE publisher and one of Nigerian leading biographers, Mike Awoyinfa, Peter Okoye sometimes ago rationalized on marriage. “I am looking forward to raising my own family but I can assure you I won’t get married and then stop doing music,” he told EE. The talented dancer and the audacious of the duo added, “As a married couple, Paul and I might not stay in the same house anymore. Like every other house we have been having, our house in Jos is a twin duplex and here we have twin duplexes. The truth is, Paul and I don’t mix business with pleasure. I have a son and he respects that. He doesn’t distract me, both of us are into relationships, it doesn’t distract us, even sometimes, when something goes wrong, we ask ourselves, is it something that is affecting us. I don’t think marriage will bring anything between us. First of all, I am not saying we must live together, but whatever we do, we love doing stuffs together and anybody
that is going to come into our lives, should understand that they met these people together, doing their thing, so don’t try to separate them.”
Peter concluded, “Success is something you never thought would come your way. Whatever we have today, we thought it would take us another seven years to get. For me, the future is now: I have seen it and I have no regrets.”
Star-studded ceremony
The capacity hall of Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island will play host to who-is-who in the entertainment industry, the corporate Nigeria as well as some political figures. At the highly anticipated exclusive ceremony, EE gathered that even some celebrities will go through scrutiny before they are admitted into the hall.
Aside the invitation card, a special entry pass will be required before guests are admitted into the hall. Heavy presence of both uniformed and plain clothes security officials are also expected to be on parade at the event.
Mike Adenuga’s connection
Sunday, November 17 will be a night of firsts as billionaire Globacom boss, Otunba Mike Adenuga will step out of his shell to mingle with the society. Those who know the large-hearted telecomm magnate are still bewildered at his admiration for the famous twins.
“This Psquare guys have to be one of the luckiest set of twins on earth. We have seen politicians and eminent citizens’ struggle without success to invite our boss to their events. I am pleasantly surprised that Otunba has opted to attend the wedding ceremony of Peter Okoye. He rarely does this and when he does, the lucky host will surely smile home with millions of Naira in goodwill gesture,” revealed an insider.
