Finally, Jonathan meets Chibok girls parents, says FG doing everything possible to rescue them

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan today, Tuesday July 22, in Abuja finally met and reassured the Chibok community that his Administration is doing everything humanly possible to rescue the over 200 girls abducted from a college there in April and return them safely to their parents.

A statement sent to SHOWBIZPLUSng by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, stated that Jonathan while speaking at a meeting in the Presidential Villa with parents of the abducted girls, some of the girls who escaped from their abductors and leaders of the community, appealed for their patience, understanding and cooperation.

First female speaker elected in Ebonyi State

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly on Monday morning elected its first female Speaker in the person of Hon. Helen Nwaobasi (Abakaliki South State Constituency), following the impeachment of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku.

The member Representing Ezza South State Constituency, Hon. Chris Usulor moved the motion for the impeachment of Nwazunku while the Minority Leader and member Representing Ezza North West State Constituency, Hon. Enyi Enyi seconded the motion.

The former speaker was impeached by 18 out of 24 members for alleged gross misconduct, incompetence and corruption.

How Nigerian Airforce helicopter crashed in Borno State

Nigeria’s Defence authorities have confirmed that a helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force crashed today South of Bama, Borno state.

A statement by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, said the Mi-35 helicopter was on a training mission, and crashed South of Bama, in Borno State, “due to technical fault.”

Former Petroleum Minister, Rilwanu Lukman dies at 75

A former Minister of Petroleum Resources and erstwhile Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, Rilwanu Lukman, is dead, this SHOWBIZPLUSng can authoritatively report.

The late Lukmam was born on August 26 1938 in Zaria, Kaduna State and left behind a wife and three children.

He was appointed Minister of Mines, Power and Steel between 1984-85 and later Minister of Petroleum Resources from 1986-1989. As Petroleum Minister, he served as President of the Organisation for the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Conference for several consecutive terms from 1985-1989.

A resident of Dille village in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, Jacob Mamza, has given a descriptive account of how members of Boko Haram that attacked the village on Monday killed pastor attached to Adeboye’s Redeemed Christian Church if God (RCCG), Taiwo Dokun. The deceased, until his murder, was pastor in-charge of one of the branches of the RCCG in the area.

Mamza told newsmen, while sobbing, that the pastor was gruesomely killed in the attack which also claimed 45 other lives.
“The pastor was in his house at about 6am when the insurgents attacked the village, his house was surrounded by the hoodlums and while attempting to run he was shot.
