Omorede Osifo gets rare honour from Oba of Benin

It was celebrations galore recently when the immediate past Commissioner for Youth and Sport Edo State, Omorede Osifo was bestowed with the Prestigious Royal beard by the Oba of Benin, a few weeks ago. SHOWBIZPLUS learnt she became the youngest woman in Edo history to be given such an honour. The highly respected monarch who hardly gives out titles and royal beards was impressed with the achievements of the female politician and deemed it fit to honour her.

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has nullified the appointment of Justice Peter Agumagu as the Acting Chief Judge of Rivers State.
The court, SHOWBIZPLUS gathered, also directed the state governor to comply with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution on the appointment of an acting chief judge for the state.
The Kengena Unity Forum led by Boma Goodhead and Ajenyanate Samuel had gone to court to challenge Agumagu’s appointment as an acting chief judge of the state by the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.
The plaintiff maintained that the state governor erred by appointing an acting chief judge from the Customary Court as against the provisions of the Constitution that the most senior judge from the State High Court should be selected as the acting chief judge.

Nigerians groan as more queues, scarcity take over petrol stations

Long queues of desperate motorists searching for petrol returned to some parts of Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states on Tuesday as the nation appears to have returned to the era of scarcity of the product.
Though, SHOWBIZPLUS gathered that the situation was generally dismissed as panic buying in some quarters, checks by our correspondents showed that queues had returned to many filling stations in Lagos as motorists were seen making frantic attempts to buy fuel in anticipation of the situation getting worse from Wednesday (today).
Specifically, queues were seen at the Total filing stations located at Acme and Oregun areas of the state; the Mobil filling station at Ogba; and Oando stations along the Oworonshoki–Tollgate end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

APC condemns Boko Haram killings, urges military to rev up preventive strategy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the spate of mass killings by Boko Haram in the country's North-east, calling the insurgents cowards for targetting unarmed civilians, especially women and children, in their dastardly attacks.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and sent to SHOWBIZPLUS, the party insisted that nothing in the world can justify the senseless slaying of innocent civilians by a band of marauding insurgents, and reminded the terrorists that they cannot win the ill-advised war they have levied against their fatherland. 

It condoled with the government and people of the affected states, especially Borno which has borne the brunt of the attacks, over the killings as well as the destruction of houses and other property.

Rivers people blast Amaechi, say OBJ’s invitation, a huge waste of state's resources

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State Chapter says it is not happy over the continued wastage of Rivers State resources by the Amaechi government, saying the invitation of the Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to the State was one of the several means of misappropriating tax payers money in the State.

The Party, in a statement sent to SHOWBIZPLUS notes that volumes of financial resources, amounting to N1bn (One Billion Naira) were spent for the hosting of the former President by the Rivers state government, wondering why such action by the Governor when the State is in dire need of funds to complete all abandoned projects and sundry issues.

However, police investigations have revealed that the 40-year-old preacher was not only into bank fraud but was also part of an armed robbery gang, this SHOWBIZPLUS can authoritatively reveal.
The father of two, who is cooling his heels in the custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, told Punch Metro that he had been into crime for many years, adding that he had  been arrested a few years ago but was later released.

'Whip It' Guitarist dies at 61

Devo Guitarist Bob Casale -- known for the hit 1980 song "Whip It" -- has died, TMZ has learned.

Bob's brother Gerald -- also a founding member of the band -- tells TMZ, Bob passed away suddenly on Monday from health complications that led to heart failure.
Gerald tells us, "As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning. He was my level-headed brother, a solid performer, and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got."

Bob was 61.

After several weeks of waiting, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has finally appointed Brig.-Gen Jones Oladehinde Arogbofa  as his new Chief Of Staff.

Brig-Gen. Arogbofa, a retired Officer of the Signals Corps of the Nigerian Army, takes over from Chief Mike Oghiadomhe who resigned last week.
