Nollywood’s biggest gifts to the world, Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme, globally known as Aki and Paw paw, recently landed a mouth-watering endorsement deal with AG cellular, a leading South African based mobile phone company.
Authoritatively gathered that the deal was struck during their recent tour of South Africa, which spanned over a month.
Breaking the good news to a select number of entertainment journalists recently, the duo hinted that the one-year deal, which is also renewable, would be elaborately launched in September, in South Africa and later Nigeria.
“AG Cellular, is a mobile hardware player, it has been operating since 94. It recently teamed up with us to introduce a new range of mobile phones. According to them, we epitomize the current and trendy brand of conscious customers for AG. The new range of phones that we’ll model for them are customized, individualized and exclusive. These models of phones will also contain pre-loaded Aki and Paw paw contents, such as: customized ring tones, wallpapers and a memory card with pre loaded videos. Some leading South African stars and celebrities have also endorsed other ranges of phones from their stable. We have no doubt that this union will pave the way for a brighter and exciting future for us and Nollywood in general”.
Aside South Africa, the Aki and Paw paw range of AG cellular phones, will also be available in other African countries, immediately after the launch in September.
Nollywood quakes for Ukpabio’s consecration



Nollywood, the pride of Africa and the second largest film-producing nation globally, is gearing up for the forthcoming apostolic consecration of movie- evangelist and founder of Liberty Gospel Church, Mrs. Helen Ukpabio.
The now talk-of-the town event holds elaborately on Saturday, August 29, 2009, in Calabar Cross River State, with several Nollywood stars and dignitaries billed to attend.
Authoritatively gathered that Ukpabio’s admirers and associates in Nollywood have also set up various committees within and outside Nollywood for a better coordination and planning of the grand gathering, which would definitely rock the city non-stop on the D-day.
With over 20 topical and contemporary movies to her credit, as one of the leading Christian filmmakers in Nollywood, Ukpabio’s films, which are mainly expository, have affected lives positively and further helped to change the society for good as well as spreading the gospel.
It is also unarguable that virtually all the leading names in Nollywood, had at one time or the other, worked with her on various movie locations, either as actors or production persons.
In another development, her latest film entitled: Light Affliction, which was directed by Ernest Obi, would soon be hitting shelves nationally and globally. Several leading names in Nollywood also starred in the bid budget movie with a difference.
Speaking on the movie, Ukpabio, who was recently in Lagos, to tidy up preparations for her apostolic consecration, posited that the new work, just like others in her series, was divinely inspired. She also prophesied spiritual fulfillment for all those coming to felicitate with her on the occasion of her consecration as an Apostle in the vineyard of the Most High.
Still waxing stronger with over 100 branches of her church scattered within and outside Nigeria, the fire brand women of God, further pledged that her consecration, would see her traveling more outside our shores, to continue spreading the gospel in all parts of the globe, adding that nothing will ever stop her from preaching and propagating the gospel to mankind.
White Gig illuminates Lagos

The Lagos party scene was recently illuminated when Encomium, the magazine and awards company hosted the third edition of its scintillating and superlative White Gig, in commemoration of its 12th anniversary.
The high octane soiree, which saw dignitaries, celebs and stars adhering to the “Standing order” of an all white ensembles held amid colour and class at the upscale and eye-pepping Lagos Oriental Hotel, opulently tucked by the water front of Lekki, Lagos.
As usual, Mr. Olakunle Bakare, the urbane and gentleman publisher of Encomium magazine ensured that choice drinks and assorted cuisines, all flowed endless at the grand-gathering, which was chaired by Princess Sarah Sosan, the deputy governor of the centre of Excellence.
To further light up the groove, which provided many, the opportunity to relax, network and savour the unadulterated evening breeze cascading from the seaside, DJ Jimmy Jatt, was on the wheels of steel, dishing out the very best that the nation’s high-flying music industry could offer.
And trust the gay guests, they kept jigging and swinging on the spacious dance floor till the memorable and well – organized ball of elegance came to a rousing end.
However, the highpoint of the event was the presentation of three brand new Kia cars to three staffers of Encomium magazine, for their long years of meritorious services to the leading soft-sell media organization.

KC Presh moves hunt to Calabar




Cheering news filtering in has it that the duo of KC Presh, has landed something big with the government of Senator Liyel Imoke of Cross River State. The Governor, we learnt has agreed to support a forthcoming initiative from the duo, which would see them giving back to society in appreciation of the support they have received from them so far.
As a further prove that the project has been fully endorsed, the amiable Governor and his lovely wife, Obioma, recently received and hosted the duo and officials of DKL entertainment at the Government House, and promised to wholly support the coming talent hunt programme. Fittingly tagged: “Sionkpo Talent Hunt with K.C Presh”, it is billed to hold at the cultural centre, Calabar on August 21, 2009. During a chat, the visibly elated duo explained further: “We went to the Governor to intimate him about our project, and as fate would have it, the Governor pledged the support of his government and we are very appreciative of the gesture. The talent hunt show is another avenue for K.C. Presh to reach the youths of this country and tell them that they can be themselves and make it in life, without engaging in crimes”. According to the organizers of the event, DKL entertainment, who are also the management company for the duo, as well as their record
label, the forms for the talent hunt show are free and can be obtained at the cultural centre, Calabar, venue of the event. The competition would produce six finalists from where an overall winner will emerge. All the six finalists automatically qualify to have a single of their songs recorded and promoted by DKL, for one year, in order to provide them the needed head start in their musical odyssey.
The overall winner would get a cash prize of N250, 000, while the first and second runners up, would get the sums of N150, 000 and N100, 000 respectively. Some leading Nigerian musicians have been penciled down to serve as judges during the context.
Meanwhile, the Cross River State Broadcasting Corporation has provided quality airtime at subsidized rates as its own contribution to the overall success of the hunt.
The screening for the hunt would hold in Uyo, Asaba and Port Harcourt, before the grand finale. A musical and comedy concert would wrap the grand finale in Calabar.



Sex in God’s house to be out soon
A new and very controversial Christian literature entitled: Sex in God’s House, would soon be hitting the shelves. Boldly and unapologetically written by popular woman of God, Reverend Cynthia Okobi, the founder and head pastor of a mobile Christian church, Awesome God Evangelical Ministries Worldwide.
A source that, perhaps, had seen a preview of the book claims that, among other soul-stirring issues concerning relationships, the author discusses frontally, matters of sex and sexual conducts especially among Christian or supposed Christians. She draws richly from her experience and those of people with whom she has been closely associated. The source added that the book, with some graphic illustrations, would be a great revelation on the unnoticed happenings in God’s houses. It is however not just a revelation on sex, but concludes with recommendations on the place of sex with Christians and offers a manual on how to use sex, among other things to foster good relationships towards building better Christians homes and society.
Due for release/launch in August, the book would no doubt generate lots of controversies, especially on the role and place of sex among Christian faithful.

Nollywood stars endorse Clear Cut

Several Nollywood stars, entertainers and celebs recently came out en masse to witness the grand opening of Clear Cut, the upscale unisex salon, for the urbane and upwardly mobile. Owned by fashion and Nollywood enthusiast Mrs. Otufowora-Kamal Abidemi, the classy salon is gradually becoming a Mecca of sort for some Nollywood stars and practitioners, who now frequent the place to enhance their looks.
Located in the heart of Tafawa Balewa Street, Surulere, where most of the leading music/movie production houses are also situated, a grand groove, heralded the opening, a fortnight ago.
Top actor Segun Arinze, Rap prodigy Kage, American returnee Emmiy and a host of others graced the opening, which had victuals in excess.
They collectively shared their optimism about the success of the new outlet.

Emem Isong premieres Edikan

Amidst glitz and grandeur, respected director, Emem Isong recently staged the world premiere of Edikan, the Ibibio language film from the stable of Royal Arts Academy, which is also subtitled in English.
Edikan tells the pathetic and moving story of a teenage girl that was sexually abused by her stepfather and later branded a witch, when she dared to speak out.
Co-produced by Uduak Oguamanam, the heart-wrenching movie stars leading acts like: Desmond Elliot, who also directed, Ini Edo, Lilian Ikpe, Nse Ikpe-Etim and several others.
Speaking on what to expect at the event, Isong, with over a decade experience as an award-winning filmmaker, disclosed that it is going to be an intellectual premiere with several notable Nigerians and leading Nollywood personalities in attendance.
“A 30-minute footage of the film will be screened, there will be also be a cultural display by a dance troupe.
Also, a notable children rights activist will deliver a speech. Hip-hop act, Slam will perform a special song for the African Child, Anne Inyang and other performers would support him on stage. There will be light refreshments and other side attractions for the premiere”, disclosed Isong, the CEO of Royal Arts Academy.
Continuing, Isong further revealed that Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, a principal officer at the House of Representatives, has agreed to chair the evening event, as well as deliver the keynote address.
Also coming as the Special Guest of Honour is Hon. Chris Essien, the Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
“We are using this film as a medium to create awareness about the child-witch saga, with a view to eradicating it from our State, Akwa-Ibom and any other place, its still being practiced. We are also open to partnerships with both private and public sectors, so that this just cause can be propagated and promoted evenly. I also see Edikan as an advocacy tool that would help change the system, especially my State, which has been bastardized. Mind you, I understand the positive impact movies are making in the society based on my extensive research and experience as a filmmaker. Above all, some percentage from the proceeds of Edikan, will go to the victims of this child-witchcraft abuse, as well as some homes and institutions catering and fighting for their rights and protection,” she promised.
Meanwhile, the well-traveled filmmaker is still celebrating with colleagues, friends and well wishers few weeks after carting home three diadems at the recently held City People Entertainment awards. Isong, who won in the categories of Best Scriptwriter, Producer and Movie of the Year, with the hit flick-Re-loaded, maintained the awards would spur her into doing more great things for Nollywood.
The rain of awards continued for Isong, at the just held Women in Media (WIM) awards, where she also won the Excellent Personality trophy, in recognition of her immense contributions to TV/movie productions, over the years. The premiere, which is currently serenading Nollywood, is strictly by invitation; and gatecrashers would not be allowed in.




Organizers set for 6th Abuja film festival




All is now set for the 6th edition of the annual Abuja International Film and Video Festival, holding from September 23rd to 25,th 2009, at the prestigious Shehu Musa Yardua Centre and Cyprian Ekwensi Cultural Centre both in Abuja, Nigeria, respectively.
The highly reputed Film and Video Broadcast Festival, according to the organizers, attract entries from over 50 countries worldwide, with an attendance of over 2,000 participants from the film, TV and general public.
The festival is organized in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information and Communication, the National Film and Video Censors Board, the Nigerian Film Corporation, the Nigerian Intellectual Property Commission and the Nigeria Television Authority.
According to the festival Director, Mr. Fidelis Duker, The festival has so far received over 107 entries from around the world and it has gone further to enlarge the advisory board of the festival to include the relevant government agencies and learned practitioners from the media and PR world. He further disclosed that the festival has incorporated a musical festival to the yearly event and that notable and up and coming music acts will be on hand daily to entertain visitors and delegates.
A Nollywood Achievement award has also been created as a yearly package of the festival, to honour all stakeholders in the industry who have contributed annually to developing and improving the sector since inception. Criteria for the awardees will be unveiled on August 1, 2009.
The festival manager Ebiere Ajibola Bodude stressed on the need for the relevant government regulatory agencies to support the film festival, which is the oldest independently run film festival in Nigeria today. The festival has commenced accepting entries for films in the following categories – feature, short, documentary and experimental films produced in the last 24 months. More laurels for top director, Lancelot Imasuen

Few weeks after mesmerizing the world on CNN’s Screening Room, where he spoke extensively about the huge potentials inherent in Nollywood and what makes the second largest film producing nation globally very unique, Nigerian born internationally acclaimed filmmaker, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, is set to receive and give out more honours and laurels.
Gathered that City People magazine recently honoured the well-traveled director at his native Benin, Edo State, South-South Nigeria, for his immense contributions to the nation’s home video scene.
The historic event, according to Imasuen, who just returned from a global tour/premiere of Ebuwa, his latest language film, in the US, UK and Canada, the honour further attests to the fact that he has done extremely well for Nollywood and himself as a film maker cum cultural ambassador with an undying passion and belief in the Nigerian project.
“My brother, I’m overwhelmed by this gesture from City People and really humbled too. It is going to be three events rolled into one on the D-day. Aside the honour from City People, I will also be having the official release party as well as announcing the worldwide release date for Ebuwa with a lot of fanfare and razzmatazz, immediately after the City People event. On that day also, I will be personally presenting special awards called the Arts Support Heritage Awards (ASHA), to some specially selected individuals that have hugely supported Ebuwa and I over the years, home and abroad. We would also give out classy souvenirs at the event. Like we all know, Ebuwa is a film on human trafficking and prostitution, it has also been endorsed by NAPTIP”, he disclosed.
Speaking further, Imasuen, with over 200 films to his credit, posited that the Ebuwa tour, which spanned over three months, was very successful and has further propagated the ideals of Nollywood to the rest of the world.
Meanwhile, as a filmmaker with bias for topical and contemporary stories and issues, Imasuen, would soon be hitting locations for a movie on Breast Cancer, in collaboration with the publishers of Genevieve magazine. The big budget project, expected to be completed this year, according to Imasuen, would be used as an awareness/advocacy tool, to further help fight the scourge of the disease that is ravaging women, in Nigeria.
Aside being interviewed on CNN, the passionate filmmaker also disclosed that as a true ambassador of Nollywood, he had equally been invited to some of the leading international media organizations like: BBC, Chinese Radio, CBC, the America Market Place and several others, to further discuss the Nollywood phenomenon. “If truth must be told, Nollywood has been accepted globally and that is a very big plus for Nigeria. It is one aspect of us that is very positive and I have always insisted that we must guard it jealously. It is high time our government embraces it fully, even those in the private sector. Again, our dream of winning an Oscar must come through our language movies, because we have plenty indigenous stories to tell the world”. He also spoke on the forthcoming Nollywood North American film festival, which he initiated, during his recent trip to Canada. He argued that the festival, which holds in September 2009, would further reposition and
help put Nollywood on the global map of leading filmmaking nations. “ Both the public and private sectors should proudly support this festival”.


New pop sensation comes on board

Things will no longer be the same, especially for Nigerian pop fans who have been wondering what happened to the thriving pop culture synonymous with the music scene of the 90s. And the reason is Kimwonder, the new pop sensation, who just berthed on the scene from her base in Los Angeles, USA. Ready with a four-tracker aptly entitled: Right Time, Kimwonder’s effort is a product of a five yearlong rehearsals in the studios, and include tracks like: Right Time Party, Enjoy the moment, Traffic 2 Haven and Papa.
All the tracks composed and arranged by Kimwonder have flavours of pop and R&B in appropriate doses.
According to Kimwonder, her incursion into music was as a result of sheer interest.
“Right from when I was a kid, I have always been drawn to good sound. I grew up listening to all genres of music, and along the line I did not need anyone to tell me that my star lies in pop songs. I feel okay with pop, because it reflects my mood always. Perhaps that is why I have the song, Enjoy The Moment. It is a reflection of the good old pop songs we have grown to know with pop stars like the late Michael Jackson.”
Of course, so many singers spring surprises when their academic background is weighed against their love for music. Kimwonder is essentially one of those wonders. With a degree in Agricultural Economics, it comes as a surprise that she could find time to do music.
“Music runs in my blood. I get a lot of joy from singing. But my degree in Agric Econs is also a boost to my knowledge, which is important in what I am doing. Music is a field where you share your knowledge, mood and experiences with your audience”
Her producer, Mr. Chris said he was lured to Kimwonder by her outstanding talent and humility.
“I have worked with lots of artistes both males and females, and I can tell you that Kimwonder is a combination of beauty and brain, and to have that with the kind of humility she has exhibited obviously astounded me. I know she would go very far. This is just the beginning of the journey.”
The album, which was recently presented to the public, at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt, featured a lot of performances from various Nigerian artistes, including XHuman, one of the rappers she featured in the album.

Jim Iyke grabs multi million deals… unveils lover

Few weeks after grabbing and headlining the Globacom’s mega deal for some privileged Nollywood stars, stylish actor, Jim Iyke, is on the verge of sealing another multi million Naira deal with Oceanic bank, this we exclusively gathered.
According to an insider, who’s also a close confidante of the Anambra State born international star, aside the N50 million that Glo recently paid him for two years endorsement, he also got another N20 million sign on fee from the marketer of his forthcoming music album entitled: Who am I.
Interestingly, Jim Iyke recently told us he would soon be signing a multi million Naira partnership deal with Oceanic Bank plc, for his forthcoming nationwide hunt: Supreme Talent. “We’ve gone far with discussions with Oceanic bank, on this project. The overall winner will get a two-movie contract deal from me, and also receive N5million upfront recording deal with Untamed Records, which is my own outfit. The lucky person will also go home with a brand new car and would be opportune to shoot a multi million Naira video in the US and UK. Several other mouth watering prizes await all the runners up”, Iyke, who just breezed in from the US, revealed.
Continuing, the actor turned singer, whose 12 tracker album featured Tuface Idibia, Sound Sultan, Yinka Davies and a few other foreign acts, further disclosed that the promo single of Who am I, alongside the scintillating video, has been dominating the national and international airwaves, since it was dropped a couple of weeks ago. “The full album will be out soon, it was recently launched in Ghana, we also had an elaborate album signing ceremony at the Silverbird, in Ghana, with over 3000 of my fans in attendance. The event was rounded off with an all night show, sponsored by TV Africa, Ghana. I’m currently on set shooting the videos of Born To Do This and Ikenna, which featured, Slow Dog. In fact, we just returned from South Africa, where we completed the video of the former. Wudi directed, while Puffy T, produced. Iyk Onwuka, the London based boss of Marginal Records, is in charge of the internet distributions and sales of my album, he paid me
handsomely for that too”.
Unarguably one of the highest paid and most sought after actors in Nollywood, he recently pocketed N5million, for his role in the first ever comic strip action movie from Nollywood.
The highly creative work of art, he told us would soon be premiered within and outside our shores.
Aside playing big in the entertainment industry, the still single entertainer, whose real names are: James Ikechukwu Esomugha, is gradually making an in road into the nation’s money-spinning oil and gas sector as well as the auto industry. He recently set up Jimke oil and gas with some of his equally rich pals, and now imports exotic cars for sales and pleasure cruising from the US. “My 2009 Cadillac Escalade, a customized SUV, will be arriving from the States, in the next couple of weeks. I buy cars for pleasure as well as business. Globally, super stars diversify, and that is what I am doing now, cos I know the show and business sides of showbiz.”
Iyke, further reacted angrily to a false story on the Internet alleging that he was beaten up, arrested and detained by the police on the orders of a female film producer, whom he had a disagreement with on set, while lensing in Ado Ekiti. “Nothing of such happened, I do not know where they fabricated the unjust story from. I was only delayed on that set and I threatened to leave, because I was traveling to the US, but when our national president, Mr. Ejike Asiegbu, intervened, I had to stay back and quickly completed my remaining scenes. To have turned the story round, the originators are liars and would soon be hearing from my team of lawyers. Even another ungodly story in one of the soft sell magazines, alleging that I was beaten in Ghana, was a figment of the writer’s imagination. My lawyers have also written them. All these are false stories aimed at bringing me and my exemplary career into disrepute, but they will never succeed.”
On his love life, the handsome entertainer, accepted he’s currently in a whirlwind romance with Keturah Hamilton, a top US model, with Jamaican and Cuban backgrounds. The damsel currently twanging Iyke’s heart like a Spanish guitar, we further learnt is also a music video model/dancer and the reigning face of Puff Daddy’s mineral water and several other endorsements.


Ambassador visits NFVCB…hails Mba’s policies


To further harness the global impact of Nollywood and reposition it as one of the effective tools needed for the re branding of our nation, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher on Friday, July 4, made a historic visit to the headquarters of the National Film and Video Censors Board in Abuja. The erudite professor was delighted by the strides made by Nigerian filmmakers and was therefore of the opinion that the re-branding process initiated by the Hon. Minister of Information and Communication, should be driven by the film medium. He gave example of how the Canadian government has used that medium for maximum effect. “Films should be able to contribute to the growth and development of any country and therefore help raise the standard and quality of life of the people. Film has to inoculate the public’, he maintained.
He further argued that the role of the national film and video censors board is one of the most critical aspects of the re-branding process. The classification and censorship process by the Censors board, he believes will help the public get quality movies that represent the interest of the Nigerian nation. The Director General Mr. Emeka Mba, in his response, thanked the High Commissioner for the visit and assured him of the board‘s commitment to sanitising the film industry and encouraging genuine moviemakers in Nigeria to harness their potentials. He promised that the Censors’ board would ensure through its classification and censorship processes that the best films get out of Nigeria to the world audience. The High Commissioner used the opportunity to invite the Censor’s board to the first Nollywood North American Film Festival in Toronto, Canada, from September 20 to 23, 2009. The festival is the brainchild of the High Commissioner and it is
expected to be an avenue for Nigeria and other black communities in the world to tell their own stories to the international audience. His Special Assistant, Domestic, Miss Franca Aernan, a leading Nollywood actress/filmmaker, accompanied the High Commissioner to the visit.


Del-York brings New York Film Academy to Nigeria


The need to recognize and immediately tackle the challenges facing the Nigerian film industry, globally known as Nollywood, has led to the signing of an agreement between Del-York international and the New York Film Academy (NYFA), US. The recent deal, which has the support and endorsement of the Ministry of Information and Communications, would see the revered and prestigious film institute bringing its world-class training courses, facilities and tutors to Lagos, Nigeria, soon.
According to Mr. Linus Idahosa, the prime mover of the laudable initiative and also the CEO of Del-York international, Nigeria will be the first country on the African continent to host the NYFA team to intensive hands on training workshop on film making, directing, screen writing, editing, broadcast journalism, 3D animation and master classes exclusively designed for professionals, marketing communications executives, lawyers, advertising agencies and government institutions.
Mr. Idahosa, further added that NYFA will ship world class equipment for the programme, including: 35mm and 16mm (plus RED) film cameras, High Definition (HD) cameras, lighting and sound systems, editing suites and projectors, which are all the same used at the leading four-year film school, in the US.
“Painstakingly designed for a new generation of film makers, screen writers, actors, producers, copy writers, creative directors and animators who share a passion for motion pictures, the training model allows all participants to achieve more in less time than any other University, Institute or School in the world. Each student will conceive, produce, direct and edit a new media project in one week.”


Also speaking, top actress, Stephanie Okereke, an alumnus of NYFA, and the coordinator of the initiative, further disclosed that Del-York would identify 100 gifted students from Nollywood and the creative arts departments of Nigerian Universities nationwide and offer them full scholarships.
“We are using a prime facility in Victoria Island, and over 500 students will be accommodated in small classes of 20 students per classroom. Registration is now in progress and classes begin in October”, she maintained.

The emerging diva, whose stage name is Nita J, recently dropped her latest video on air, for her fans and music lovers to watch and applaud.
Entitled: Tyme No Dey, the beautiful work of art was shot in South Africa on 35mm format by Bradon, for god father productions. Nita J, during a recent media parley, where she formally presented the video, said her songs dwell on all aspects of human life, thus making her a crossover act.
Aside Tyme No Dey, Nita J and her crew also lensed the video of Sexy Boi, another hit song in the forthcoming full album.
Both videos are currently on national and cable TV stations, and excited Nita J, promised to drop more scintillating videos in the next couple of weeks.
“I will always give my fans the best of me in whatever I do as an entertainer. Agreed, I have a strong passion for music, but my acting career is still very paramount and would always remain my first love,” she disclosed.
“Music for me is food for the soul and must always go on, no matter what we are going through. For instance, the death of Michael Jackson is very painful, but his songs are still comforting and consoling us, that is music for you and I”

Next Level reality show excites participants

The Next Level, a first of its kind reality TV show aimed at preparing and empowering participants’ minds and further helping them to develop and sharpen their entrepreneurial and business development skills, was recently unveiled in Lagos.
According to Market Tech, the prime movers of the coming event, it has been designed and targeted at those who are engaged in meaningful productive activities, especially the unemployed, students and those that are about to retire from work, literates and illiterates as well as the physically challenged.
They further disclosed that participants for the reality show would be determined through raffle draws and trained at the Centre for Management Development, Shangisha, Lagos, for a period of 30 days. “All expenses paid, first, second and shark draws. We are also giving away 100 generators, 50 standing fans and lots more for the first draw. We will also be giving out five tricycles, 10 motor cycles, One Million Naira each for 20 people and a 30-day training at the centre, in the second and final draws”.
Meanwhile, a brand new Suzuki Swift Salon car, awaits the overall winner, who will also be crowned The Next Level ambassador. While the first and second runners-up, would walk home with a Suzuki Alto salon car and a complete set of Plasma TV set with Home Theatre, respectively.
To participate, a participant is expected to purchase the scratch card, with a token, from accredited dealers nation-wide.
The project begins this July, and would run for a period of five months on national and cable TV stations. The organizers further argued that it would also provide guidelines on the best approach to setting up small businesses and identifying business opportunities as they arise.

The recent communiqué from the 19 States Chapter Chairmen of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) endorsing the presidency of Mr. Ejike Asiegbu; has been countered by the recently inaugurated National Caretaker Committee of the Board of Trustees (BOT), headed by Mr. Kanayo O. Kanoyo.
It would be recalled that the chapter chairmen under the aegis of Conference of Chairmen, at a meeting held at Recozee Hotel, Warri, Delta State, on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, among other issues agreed that Mr. Asiegbu and his elected officers should remain the recognized National Executives of AGN.
They were also given three months, between June 24 and September 23, 2009, to conduct a national election.
A caveat also issued was that failure to conduct election at the stipulated time; they shall meet with the BOT, in Nassarawa State on September 25, 2009, to jointly form an AGNEC and immediately conduct an election within one month.
The communiqué duly signed by the 19 States chapter chairmen, further reminded the BOT, that its constitutional role is purely advisory and should act within the confines of the 2007 constitution of the AGN.
“In thanking the BOT, for having the interest of the guild at heart, we also want to make it clear that their action is unconstitutional, according to the 2007 AGN constitution, and therefore, null and void. The Conference of Chairmen is the Congress of the guild”.
In a swift reaction, the Caretaker Committee, in a release signed by Kanayo O. Kanayo, the interim president, questioned the authenticity of the three months given Mr. Asiegbu, to conduct an election by the Conference of Chairmen.
“Mr. Asiegbu dissolved and disbanded the Conference of Chairmen on June 1, 2006, at what point was the body reconstituted? Why would the same body that Mr. Asiegbu accused of fraud, intimidation, incompetence, nocturnal meetings and various acts of corruption suddenly become too credible, relevant and proper for the extension of his long expired tenure? In the final analysis, the Caretaker Executives shall conduct its duties within the six months period arrogated it to conduct the AGN presidential election and duly hand over to the next AGN executives…”

Since hitting the airwaves exclusively on HITV, millions of viewers have been applauding Koko Mansion and the twelve beautiful kokolettes thrilling daily in the widely acclaimed reality show. Expectedly too, Koko Mansion being powered by Toyin Zubair and his dedicated team, kicked off on a high note.


Also being supported by Nigerian Breweries Plc’s brands, Star and Maltina and Jagal Group, makers of Tetmosol, the recent unveiling ceremony of Koko Mansion was characterized by pomp, razzmatazz and blitz. At exactly 5pm, the show hostess, Mariam Anazodo opened the Koko Mansion, bringing to an end, weeks of suspense. But then, the suspense, intrigues, counter intrigues and drama have just begun. However, there will not be any eviction this week as the Kokolettes are busy getting used to one another. Inyanya to release video of Love Truly




Inyanya Mbuk, the winner of the inaugural edition of the MTN Project Fame West Africa, is set to hit the Nigerian music scene with an awe-inspiring music video of his hit single, ‘Love Truly.’
The Calabar-born artiste, who has enjoyed a smooth entrant into the country’s music scene since emerging the ultimate winner of the keenly contested music reality TV show, has been the toast of other artistes as his hit singles continue to enjoy regular air play and acceptance among the teeming youths in the country.
In an interview during the Lagos audition for Season Two of the MTN Project Fame West Africa, Inyanya said that the music video was a true reflection of the message of the song, ‘Love Truly’. He explained that the song depicts life experiences of lovers who have everything going on well with their relationships and how people should encourage love and meaningful relationships. It talks about love, passion, emotions and betrayals.
Inyanya explained: “A lot has happened in my life which I feel I should communicate to people through my music. It is the only way I can express myself to the world about some issues in the society. I am out to do good music and not hype, therefore I want somebody to play my music and learn something from it.”

The video, which is expected to hit the TV screens anytime soon has long been awaited by his fans considering the success and appeal created by his two hit singles, ‘Love Truly’ and ‘No Time’ (featuring Face). M-Squad Media, a top rated Nigerian music outfit, produced and directed the video to fit perfectly into the global demand for exciting and colourful recording.
‘Love Truly’ is Inyanya’s first hit track, which was composed while in the MTN Project Fame West Africa Academy. That musical talent hunt show marked the beginning of a new chapter in Inyanya’s life, having emerged the winner of the ultimate prize of N2.5 million cash, a Toyota RAV 4 and a one-year recording deal. For the ‘Golden Boy’, as he is fondly called by fans, it is not only about the prizes as God’s grace, hard work and some of the valued he had picked from the Project Fame Academy have sufficiently shaped his career.

Reflecting on his days at the Project Fame Academy, the handsome songster admitted that MTN Project Fame has taught him a lot in music and how to handle the challenges of stardom.

In his words: “I now have more understanding of song writing. The show has really changed my musical performance, particularly my style of performing. It has also changed my moral life because of the everyday lessons and tasks from the Principal, Mummy J (Joke Silva), and all that we got to learn from her. In fact, if I began to say everything I have learnt in the Project Fame, I will continue to talk for years,” he said.

More tears for Michael Jackson in Nollywood

More and more Nollywood stars and filmmakers are still mourning and crying over the recent and sad demise of globally acclaimed Pop star Michael Jackson, recently, after suffering a cardiac arrest in his Los Angeles home, US.
Leading the pack of mourners is top actor cum Hip-hop debutant Jim Iyke. In an emotion-laden voice, the talented thespian that just breezed in from the US, where he just finished work on a trans-Atlantic big budget movie, said the world has lost an entertainment icon. “Michael Jackson was no doubt an icon of unprecedented presence. Many will come and go in the course of our history, but come what may, there will never ever be another MJ”.
Also lamenting, the trio of Oby Edozieh, Stephanie Okereke and Steph Nora Okere, who are top actresses in Nollywood, said the news of Jackson’s exit came to them as a rude shock. In the words of Edozieh, “I could not do anything the day Michael died. I felt so sad and that feeling has not left me. Mike truly touched lives and would be greatly missed”.
While baring her heavy heart to us, actress cum TV presenter of Bold Faces, Tricia Eseigbe, said she could not hold back tears when the sad news reached her. “My brother, Mike inspired my going into showbiz at a very tender age. I cried all day when I confirmed the news of his death. Death or not, he lives on in my life and that of many others globally”.
For Barrister Sam Kargbo, the Abuja based honcho of SKP productions; Jackson’s death has left a big vacuum on the global entertainment scene. The lawyer whose label discovered X-Project, and has continued to nurture them for almost a decade, further hinted that his exit was a big blow to all his fans globally.
“There can never be another Jackson, he was truly loved globally.”
Mr. Joseph Odobeatu, the boss of O’Jez Music and Entertainment Centre, opined that aside the untimely death, he was also looking forward to the day Jackson would visit Nigeria. “That dream is no longer realistic, because the cold hands of death has denied us of that once-in-life-time opportunity. However, we are planning something big for him at O’Jez soon”.
While lamenting the irreparable loss, Nigerian born Swedish based Afro-Hip-hop crooner, Lurrenz hinted he was looking forward to attending Jackson’s over-publicized concert in London, next month. “I cannot go again, because Mike is no more. He really influenced my going into showbiz”.
According to ace filmmaker and the president of Nollywood Association for Better Anambra (NABA), Mr. Obi Madubogwu, the sad news spoilt his mood for the whole day. “Initially, I thought it was a joke, but it dawned on me when it was confirmed. Since his death, I’ve not stopped playing his songs, but the irony is that they keep bringing back sad memories.”
It would be recalled that Jackson, the undisputed king of Pop died on June 25, 2009 at age 50. Showbiz Bits also joined Nollywood and the rest of the world in mourning this music legend, whose soul lifting songs immensely helped to heal our troubled world and souls.


The Ahizes’ fetes stars and associates


Lagos literally stood still for politician and international businessman Chief Charles Ahize and his pretty wife penultimate Sunday evening, when they threw a lavish birthday soiree for their last daughter, Zeenachi Kayla, who just clocked one.
The classy and hugely attended event, which held at the upscale Fun Factory, Lekki, Lagos, attracted the who-is-who as well as some leading entertainers in the movie, music and comedy sectors.

While sultry actress Bimbo Akintola and tested actor Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey led the team from Nollywood to the event, Nigga Raw and Yori-Yori crooners, Bracket, were fully in charge of the team from the music industry.
Representing the team from the comedy sector was ace rib-cracker, Ali Baba, who came very late to the grand gathering with Mary, his wife.
Swathed in an all white Linen attire, Chief Ahize, who drove to the event in his glittering Phantom Rolls Royce, played the good host, by personally serving his specially invited guests with choice drinks and assorted dishes.
The Obigbo founder was so busy serving and ensuring that all went well at the bash, even to the extent of refusing to sit for just a minute.
In fact, getting him for a group photograph with most of his A-List guests was very difficult, because he kept moving from seat to seat greeting and personally taking the orders of all his invited guests.
In a brief chat, elated Mrs. Mercy Ahize, his equally busy wife, said if feels real good celebrating the first birthday of her last daughter with friends, associates, family members and well – wishers.
She also thanked her darling husband for making the celebration possible in a grand style.
Also speaking, top actor Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, who was accompanied to the champagne-flowing bash by his wife and daughter, further disclosed that him and Chief Ahize married their wives from the same family. “I m not at this party as a Nollywood star, but as a member of the family. You can also see that I came with my family members for this party. We wish the baby many happy returns and long life,” he prayed.
Some of the Igbo big boys and society top shots spotted at the party include: Chief Mike Ikoku, the honcho of All Seasons Hotel and Mike Records, whom we gathered flew in from Owerri, Imo State specially for the event, Prince Emeka Obasi, the dandy publisher of Business Hallmark newspaper, Christopher Okobi, the CEO, Chriskobi Investment Limited, Chuks Okoroafor, CEO, Sectronics International Limited among others. Even the presence of Chief Ukaonu A Ukaonu, the Assistant Controller of Customs, further electrified the venue. He came with his wife and two lovely daughters and cracked many ribs with unending laughter before leaving. May be, he missed his earthly calling as a comedian.
Gathered authoritatively that the after party train later moved to the palatial Lagos home of the Ahizes’, from where it continued till very late into the night.


NFVCB unveils magpie



Mr. Emeka Mba and his very creative team at the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), in their continued efforts to digitalize the new distribution framework and make the system easy and user friendly, through its ICT unit, has created a special software application called Magpie. According to them, it’s a system that will enable film and video distributors track the progress of their film throughout the process of classification. A major concern in the business of media and communication is the ability to store and retrieve information quickly and accurately. The enormous quantity of information and data available in the business of censorship and classification of movies is much that the traditional methods of information and data use are grossly inadequate. The use of the MAGPIE SUITE of applications by the NFVCB is therefore to ensure timely and accurate assessment of data for effective and efficient delivery of services. Also, the
system will ensure the sharing of information both within the corporate network and the Internet. Other value added services inherent in this system is to help automate and improve workflow processes. It will also enhance the effectiveness of the board’s censorship and classification processes. The applications are in three forms: the classifier, link master and sms engine. While the Classifier encapsulates the business logic in the process of censorship and classification of films and video works, the link master is an application employed in manipulating the repository of data relating to operators in the film and video work industry.
The Short Message service (SMS) has achieved a huge success in the wireless world; because billions of SMS messages are sent everyday, which is complemented by the fact that virtually everybody owns a GSM phone.
SMS Services makes for ease of communication; with a mobile phone one can send and read SMS messages at any time, no matter where one is.

Anambra govt endorses KAKA

The good and hard working people of Anambra State, under the leadership of highly focused Gov. Peter Obi, recently endorsed and agreed to support the forthcoming Kick Against Kidnapping in Anambra (KAKA), an awareness and enlightenment initiative embarked upon by the members of the Nollywood Association for Better Anambra State (NABA).
Elated Obi, threw his weight and that of the State behind the coming event, when some executives of the Lagos based body paid him a courtesy visit at the Awka situated Governor’s Lodge, recently.
Gov. Obi, who spoke extempore in the presence of some of his Commissioners, State Leaders of Thought and other Senior Citizens said the time has come for the State and its citizens to take their destinies in their own hands, adding that his administration will continue to embark on masses friendly projects, which would further return the light to the State and make it function optimally.
He also thanked the NABA executive for coming up with an initiative that would further move the State forward and restore confidence in her citizens as well as would be investors.

It’s not about me, but Anambra State, which is bigger and greater than all of us. Anambra is great and would continue to do great things. While responding, the president of NABA, Mr. Obi Madubogwu, also a leading filmmaker in Nollywood, thanked the Gov. for believing in the vision and mission of NABA, as well as endorsing KAKA, on behalf of the State.
Mr. Madubogwu, who spoke in both English and Igbo, further assured the Gov. that the project, which is primarily targeted at youths from the State, would definitely help curb the scourge of incessant cases of kidnapping in the once peaceful state, as soon as it is launched and flagged off.
The NABA team during their four-day sojourn also paid courtesy visits to some A-List traditional rulers in the State and further intimated them about NABA/KAKA and their good intentions for the State, which is noted and acclaimed for several ‘firsts,’ in the country.
The other NABA executives that made the historic trip include: Top actresses: Ngozi Ezeonu, Oby Gold Edozieh and Benita Nzeribe. Others on the train are: Chukwudi Bambino, Donald Okoli and Chigo Felix.
The KAKA awareness march, expected to be staged in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi holds in the next couple of weeks, with the sole aim of nipping the unwholesome scourge of kidnapping in the bud.


Achievas entertainment grooms Solid Star

Although, Joshua Iniyezo, 21, better known as Solid Star started singing at age 8, based on his passion for music, which began from his days as a member of his family church’s youth choir. Amazingly, the dancehall/hip-hop debutant is now poised to play in the nation’s big league, courtesy of Achievas Entertainment, the outfit that recently discovered and signed him.
In the next couple of months, his debut album, a 14 tracker entitled: “One In A Million”, would be hitting shelves both nationally and internationally on Achievas Records.
In a chat with us, the fast emerging crooner who just returned from Abuja, where he dazzled fans at the recently held tenth anniversary of Tuface Idibia, said the forthcoming work was done in collaboration with some leading musicians, whom he also look up to as role models.
Among those featured in the album produced by OJB Jeezreel, include: African China, Tuface Idibia, Rock steady, Mallam Spicy, Mayor and OJB himself.
“I felt and still feeling very happy for being the only up and coming act that was given the opportunity to feature at the Idibia’s tenth anniversary gig. I also got a standing ovation after my performance. I can’t wait for my work to be out, so that my fans will feel all my songs, which I also know are very tight. Yahoo-yahoo, One in a million, I love girls and My Papa, a gospel song, are some of the tracks in the coming album. I also owe my label a lot for discovering and believing in my abilities as a singer”.
Speaking further, Mr. Ossy Achievas, the honcho of the youth friendly outfit, maintained that there aim is to make the newly signed act and others coming behind comfortable, in order for them to deliver optimally. “We recently moved Solid Star from Ajegunle to Festac Town, in order to monitor his growth musically as well as repackage his image. We will soon be taking him on a tour of South Africa and the UK. Meanwhile, he has only been with us for just two years, meaning that there is a mutual understanding between us. With the support of my friends and colleagues in the industry, we intend making him the big next thing on the Naija music scene,” he promised.
The boss of Achievas, further revealed that Solid Star, who also performs regularly at popular hangout, Ojez, would soon commence the lensing of his musical videos.
“His full album will be launched in Lagos and Abuja soon, Solid Star is so unique that we had to sign him the first day we met. He’s not only talented, but also has the vocal strength to keep going on”.
On his future plans, the dreadlocks-donning act, said he has always dreamt of becoming an international act that will be at the top of his game. “Tuface Idibia is my role model and I want to be like him musically”.
Meanwhile, Achievas Records disclosed that it has concluded plans with its partners in the UK and US, on how to help market the forthcoming work effectively on both continents, as soon as its released and launched here.

Nigerian born Swedish based singer and aspiring actor Lawrence Onuzulike better known as Lurrenz, has dropped his long-awaited new single on the national and international airwaves.
Stylishly entitled: I am Lurrenz, the new audio CD, currently penetrating the airwaves and also enjoying rave reviews from pundits and critics alike, featured the singing trio of Konga, Pasto Goody-Goody and the Jah Squad, in a never seen-before kind of collabo.
Painstakingly produced by Pupa Orits Williki for Lurrenzinc Music, the fast emerging crooner, also an author and activist; promised that the full album alongside the videos, would be released and officially launched in Nigeria and Europe respectively, in the next couple of months, in collaboration with his foreign partners.
“This promo copy is just to wet the appetite of my teeming fans, they are tired of waiting for the full album, which is almost ready, so we decided to give them this one first, just a tip of the iceberg. I just returned from my base in Sweden, where I went to master and completely repackage the full album. I’m also happy with the response we are getting so far from fans and critics on this single. In a nutshell, the work tells my story and further reveals the goodies I want to offer the music world,’ he disclosed.
The still single act, who is also the honcho of Lurrenzinc.Com, a fast growing social and interactive network site, recently indicated interest to join Nollywood as an actor. He argued that the move became necessary following pressures from his filmmaker friends in Nollywood, who strongly believe that his handsome face would be an added advantage in their movies.

Emerging rib cracker, Romario is currently working round the clock to ensure that his debut show tagged: Comedy Outburst; turns out a huge success.
Holding amid blitz and glitz at the expansive Union Bank Sports Hall, Surulere, Lagos on July 5, 2009, the music/comedy concert, according to the organizers promises to be fun and memorable.
Among those billed to thrill guests at the evening groove include: Gandoki, Seyi, Law, Bovi, D’Lectura, Elenu and Emeka Smith.
Others on the very tight list are: Mr. Patrick, Sammie Okposo, OJB Jeezreel, Pasto Goody-Goody, Solid AC and a host of other up and coming entertainers.
Interestingly too, several Nollywood stars would be gracing the gathering as guest artistes and would be signing autographs for their teeming fans on the red carpet.

Mode Men, the all colour, all gloss magazine for men of style who are also achievers in their various fields of human endeavours recently hosted a luncheon, to further solidify the importance of the just held Father’s Day. The grand gathering, which held at an upscale Chinese restaurant, in the heart of Victoria Island, on June 13, 2009, was well attended. Though, it was held a week before Father's Day, in order to raise funds for a planned visit to the children of the Red Cross Orphanage in Yaba, on the D day. Guests that graced the beautiful outing include: Dr.Newton Jibunoh, Mr. Richard Akerele, Michael Archer, Princewill Utchay, Emeke Nzeribe, Kelechi Amadi -Obi and Pastor Rotimi Osoba. Champagne flowed as the three course Chinese meal was served.
Dr. Newton Jibunoh gave a short talk on the importance of Fatherhood, while the Editor In Chief of the high flying magazine, Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa spoke glowingly on the vision of the magazine and it's constant desire to make a change in the society and help the less privileged. It was an afternoon of good food, champagne, laughter and giving to the orphans. All the fathers in attendance also received gifts, which included a 'Michael Kors' fragrance set and a book entitled: 'Why the poor remain poor' by Richard Okejovoh, who was also at the event.

Having worked under great names like: Dagogo Diminas Jack, the late Amatu Braide and few other veterans in the creative department of Nollywood, AMA Awards 2009 nominated make up artist, Sandra Ejikeme is poised to rule the world and move her thriving career to the next level.
With over a decade experience in tinsel town, Ejikeme, who started first as an actress before veering into make up, is also a costumier and stylist of repute.

With age still on her side, the unassuming spinster with eyes on the global scene, is however of the view that Nollywood can also produce on Oscar winner in the Make Up category, if properly harnessed, based on the abundant talents inherent in the industry.
Speaking with Daily Sun, in her first major interview, during a recent courtesy visit to our corporate head office in Apapa, Ejikeme, from Obosi, Anambra State, bared her mind and further told us what makes her unique, as well as the nasty things she has done in her quest for true love.


You were among the nominees at this year’s AMA Awards, but ended up not winning. Did you feel bad?
No, I didn’t feel bad, being nominated for me, was as good as winning the prize itself. No doubt, I came to the awards expecting or hoping to win like every other nominee. I was and still very proud of myself and career in Nollywood and has even started working very hard, in order to win in next year’s edition.

Tell us more about The Assassins, the film that fetched you the nomination?
Okay! Assassins is a big budget film that we shot in Sierra Leone, for over a month. I even sacrificed my Xmas, which I normally spend with my family here in Nigeria, for this particular movie. Sincerely, I sacrificed a lot on the set of that movie. In fact, I did not only handle makeup on that set, I was also in charge of the costume and it was a large cast. The costume person did not make the trip, so I had to assist her.

When you saw your name as one of the nominees in that category, how did you feel?
I felt on top of the world and thanked God for making it possible. It is not easy being recognized and appreciated as one of the very best not only in Nigeria, but the whole of Africa. For me, the wait was worth the while. Though, I feel happy and excited, but winning would have been the icing on the cake for me.

Between make up and costume, which did you start first?
I started with costuming first and the late Amatu Braide trained me. I later worked with Millicent Jack and several other big names, before veering into make up with Dagogo Jack’s 13 Fat Man. I look young, but this my 13th years in Nollywood and seven solid years as a make up artist that has been on her own. Surprisingly, a journalist like you, Mr. Chu Nwankwo, brought me into the industry, he used to be with MBI.

So, what now informed your love for make up?
Ekenna Igwe, who is one of my mentors in Nollywood, was the person that suggested that I should go into make up, after seeing how passionate I’m in helping people to look good always. He eventually handed me over to Dagogo Diminas, who groomed and nurtured my growth and career in Nollywood, till I left him to establish Sandito Creations, which is my own outfit.
My first set of make-ups were in movies like: God Is A Joker, several of Chico Ejiro movies and many others, some seven to eight years ago. Actually, I do more of make up than costuming because of my passion for making people up and seeing them look good. I also like looking good and intend traveling out soon to go and study more about make up in Europe or South Africa. I will say it for the umpteenth time, I love make up. Making people or even myself up, makes me to be creative. I like to create new things and also experiment whenever I’m on set. I can turn people into monsters or Monalisas on set, depending on what the script says.

Aside Dagogo Jack that trained you, who are the other people you look up to in the make up world?
I have so much respect and regard for the boss of Gabazini Concepts, Gab Okorie, we were all together at 13 Fat Man, he has really done well for himself. I also admire Perewinkle, for his creative ability, who’s also another great member of 13 Fat Man.

You’ve said so much about 13 Fat Man, what was it like working with this outfit?
It was fun, nice, rewarding and also tasking working with 13 Fat Man. I learnt a lot from the outfit. It also helped to shape my career in Nollywood. I still respect and admire all the old members of that wonder production outfit that further helped to shape Nollywood in terms of creative designs. I learnt a lot from our boss then and even my colleagues. Another thing hat helped shape my career were the several books on make up that Mr. Dagogo Jack recommended for me, which I read whole heartedly. He is a wonderful boss.

What does it take to be a great make up artist in Nollywood or elsewhere?
To be honest with you, determination and the creative mind are the first set of steps. You must also be hard working and willing to learn, even under harsh conditions. In doing all of these, you must continually ask yourself, what do I want? So, that you don’t get carried away, while on the job. My aim as a make up artist is to be among the best globally, and I see that happening very soon, because I’m working hard towards that every day.

You started first in the industry as an actress; do you still act?
No and yes. I still once in a while, mostly on part time basis, because of my busy schedule. In fact, I came into Nollywood first and foremost, as an actress that I won’t deny.
I’ve done over a dozen jobs as an actress in Nollywood. Another reason that led to my quitting acting was the proliferation. Every Tom, Dick and Harry now wants to act and be an over night star in Nollywood. Again, working behind the cameras has also helped me to be my real self and guard me from living the life pretence.

Do you restrict yourself to only Nollywood jobs or you also do outside jobs?
No, I don’t restrict myself to only Nollywood jobs; I do make up jobs for society weddings and even fashion jobs, outside Nollywood. In fact, I just returned from Abuja, where I was invited to do a make up job for a big babe. Outside engagements pay me more than those in Nollywood. In the last couple of months, I’ve been shuttling in-between Abuja and Lagos, plying my trade as a professional make up artist on the social and corporate scenes. Above all, I love showbiz with a passion. I am also very affordable, for those that can afford my services.

We would like to know more about your outfit Sandito creations and the things you do?
At Sandito a creation, which is over five year, we do a lot of creative works for those within and outside Nollywood. We are basically into make up, costuming, styling and general makeup for individuals and corporate bodies.
Our dream is to be a reference point within and outside Nollywood in the areas of makeup and creative works. I’m happy that our quality works are already speaking for us. Recently, we started training up and coming Nigerians who are interested in pursuing a career in makeup and other related works of art. Since, I have been empowered; I also want to give back to the society, by empowering youths, who I expect to take over from me someday. If not for the lack of finance, I would have set up a make up school since. But I know that by God’s grace, I will accomplish that age long dream of mine, someday, and when that happens, I will personally ensure that the academy operates free of charge or with just a token fee. It’s not as if I don’t do costume jobs, but I always try to run away from the stress associated with it. It’s a pity that most people that claim to be costumiers in Nollywood, do not even know what a costume chart is all about.

We would like to know more about your background?
I was born and christened Sandra Nchekwubechukwu Ejikeme here in Lagos. I’m a young girl from Obosi, in Anambra State, who is also still single and searching for the sincere guy.

Why are you still single and what kind of man would appeal to you?
All I need in my life is a sincere man, because I’m a very sincere person. He must also be God fearing. Most guys coming my way are only interested in my hips. The way my hips drive them crazy also scares me.

What happened to your last relationship?
He got married and left me heart broken. That notwithstanding, we are still very good friends. However, I won’t deny the fact that he is a nice guy and very focused too.

Does the fact that he did not marry you gets you angry?
Initially, yes, but now, no. Like I told you earlier, we are still the best of pals. And let me ask you, must all relationships lead to marriage? The fact that he did not marry me won’t be the end of my life. No way, life goes on.

What if he comes back and proposes would you accept him back?
I can’t answer that question now, but the truth is that I don’t see him doing that, he loves his young family so much and I respect him for that. Mind you, you can’t bring back the hand of clock. But I regret not being his wife, because he’s a true gentleman and a ladies man.

So, when do you intend getting married?
Very soon, though I’m still single and searching, but I’m very optimistic that I would be married soon. If the right guy comes today, I would gladly accept his offer.

You’re a member of the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN), do you think the guild has done enough to support the careers of its members in Nollywood, especially the young ones?
Yeah! The guild under the vibrant leadership of Iyen Agbonifo-Obaseki is really doing a lot for its members. She has further helped to reposition the guild and is members. She also organizes regular trainings and workshops for us with foreign resource persons. Under her, CDGN, has really grown and done well for its members. Even most times, she uses her money to run the guild.

What separates you from the other make up artists in Nollywood?
I don’t like blowing my trumpet, but I think the invaluable experience gathered over the years as well as those that trained me on the job separates me from the pack. I was born to be a make-up artist. In fact, I’m a unique-make up artist.
Another thing I want to do is going back to school to study Mass Communications when the time permits. It’s a course I love so much.

Can anything make you quit Nollywood?
For now nothing, and not even the melt down. My passion for Nollywood and showbiz in general is something that I can’t really explain.

Have you ever cried for love?
Yes, aside crying for love, it even led me to the point of wanting to commit suicide and smoking heavily, which I have never done all my life. All these happened when my guy left me and secretly got married. In fact, he was supposed to take me out on his wedding day.

Kokolettes finally set for Mansion’s unveiling

After a long and eventful wait, the last 12 girls (kokolettes) standing, are now set and fully ready to walk majestically into the famous Koko Mansion. The elaborate ceremony would be unveiled to the world live on June 28, 2009, with razzmatazz and blitz, in the city of Lagos.
Beginning from this Sunday, 12 girls will for eight weeks strive to outwit one another in their quest to become the ideal Kokolette with brains and talent.
The Mansion is situated in an undisclosed area in Lagos. Hip-hop superstar D’banj will play a vital role in the coming show.
We reliably gathered that in these weeks, the young women will be groomed and tested in various activities in order to determine the one with the greatest Koko virtues, worthy of being a wife –Kokolette.
Some of these Koko virtues that the viewer, who will be the ultimate judge in the intrigue-filled show would be looking out for are: the ability of the Kokolette to cook sumptuous meals; furnish and maintain the mansion among other good behaviours. The Kokolette must also be industrious while being able to take care of the home front; her ability to be respectful and courteous at all times would be put to test. The potential Kokolette must be able to emulate notable women in the society, in order to win the public’s votes to remain in the house.
The public in the course of the show will know the most tolerant, hospitable and respectful woman in the mansion. D’banj’s entertaining character may also act as a catalyst that will bring out the girls’ true personalities.
The winner of the show will emerge the most sought after Kokolette. She must however, be a beautiful young lady, smart and intellectually savvy and also possesses a fun talent and must be willing to explore and definitely be a wife material. She must be well-cultured with sound domestic training, an absolute diva with the ability to get along with a diverse crowd. The Kokolette must be someone with good moral values, independent and ambitious, aside being a creative person.
She must also be an excellent host, a very creative person. A video audition was recently carried out at Planet One, Lagos, it further helped the panel to determine the 12 finalists.
“There will be no evictions in the first week because the ladies would have to socialize and familiarize themselves with living in a mansion. However, eviction starts in the second week, where two ladies with the least number of votes from the viewers will be ushered out. Weekly evictions begin from the second week till we have our final three ladies.” Meanwhile, eviction is primarily done by the public and could be based on D’banj’s comments. Every week, there will be a talent show segment where each lady must showcase her talent to the viewers. Talent is an important criterion to be part of the show because it would serve as the platform for each Kokolette to become a celebrity in her own right after the show. However, each week, among the three ladies up for eviction, it would be D’Banj’s prerogative to give Koko Mycine (immunity) to one of the girls. He can only use Koko Mycine once in the duration of the show. The winner will among
other benefits,
be crowned Kokolette 1, get a Chris Aires Diamond ring, a brand new convertible car, feature in his next music video, You Don Make Me Fall In Love alongside N5 million in cash. Aside winning, she would be D’Banj’s companion at public events both within and outside Nigeria. She would further emerge as HiTV’s Hi-Babe. Aside from exploring her talent professionally, she’ll be obligated to get involved in women empowerment projects that would especially reinforce the unique role of an African woman in the development of our society.

WIM to honour Funke Akindele, other female achievers



Cheering news filtering in has it that Clout Media Limited has confirmed that it would host the second edition of the annual Women in Media (WIM), conference holding from June 25 to 26, 2009, at Terra Culture, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Launched in 2008, the maiden edition took place during the 2008 Lagos International Film Festival. The turbo charged and improved WIM, is now a stand-alone event that is expected to attract over 500 women from the West African sub region. Top journalists, filmmakers, producers, directors, advertising/PR experts will converge for workshops, panel discussions and other germane issues affecting women in the media.
Award winning filmmaker/activist Sandra Obiago, the CEO, Communicating For Change, will headline the event with a keynote address. Talk show hostess Agatha Amata, producer Emem Isong, Nigeria’s sole female cinematographer Sebari-Diete-Spiff, and TV presenter Nneka Moses, are just a few among some of the female heavy weights that would be featuring prominently at the gathering. Others include: Janet Mba Afolabi and Ijeoma Nwogwugwu. It will not be an all female affair as top entertainment lawyer Efere Ozako and filmmaker/activist and Regional Secretary of Pan African Federation of Filmmakers Madu C.Chikwendu will have to contend with these talented and powerful women making giant strides in the media.

NFVCB destroys illegal movies…wants more funding

It its efforts to further reposition and strengthen the Nigerian saturated film industry, the leadership of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in Abuja, publicly destroyed seized illegal and unapproved films worth millions of Naira. The destruction according to the honcho of the apex film regulatory body, Mr. Emeka Mba, was in line with the NFVCB’s act and NFVCB regulations 2008.
The products which include: pornographic and uncensored movies; were confiscated from the dealers in a raid carried out by the enforcement unit of the board.
Performing the ceremony before the full glare of the public, amiable and hard working Mr. Mba, described the burning of the movies as very symbolic. In his words, “what we are doing, is to show our commitment to the fight against pornography and also to use it as a platform to appeal to the members of the public about the dangers of pornography and also to those who are involved in the sale of pornographic materials that we are there, and when we get them, we will arrest them, prosecute them and destroy their products”.
The DG was also very optimistic that the board would win the fight against pornography and illegitimate distribution of movies in Nigeria. He also assured that the board would continue to engage the members of the public through the media to understand the dangers of pornography.
Mba, further reiterated the commitment of the board and the pressure its mounting on pirates and criminals who are relentless in their quest to flood the market with illegal video materials.
“For the board to be a step ahead of the gang, we are appealing to government for increased funding to enable us continue with this enforcement activities”, he pleads.


Mode Men celebrates Father's Day with style


Mode Men magazine, the all colour, all gloss magazine for men of style who are also achievers in their various fields of endeavours recently hosted a luncheon, to further solidify the importance of the recently held Father’s Day. The grand gathering, which held at an upscale Chinese restaurant, in the heart of Victoria Island, on June 13, 2009, was well attended.
Though, it was held a week before Father's Day, in order to raise funds for a planned visit to the children of the Red Cross Orphanage in Yaba, on the D day. Guests that graced the beautiful outing include: Dr.Newton Jibunoh, Mr. Richard Akerele, Michael Archer, Princewill Utchay, Emeka Nzeribe, Kelechi Amadi -Obi and Pastor Rotimi Osoba. Champagne flowed as the three course Chinese meal was served.
Dr. Newton Jibunoh gave a short talk on the importance of Fatherhood, while the Editor In Chief of the high flying magazine, Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa spoke glowingly on the vision of the magazine and the magazine's constant desire to make a change in the society and help the less privileged. It was an afternoon of good food, champagne, laughter and giving to the orphans.
All the fathers in attendance also received father's day gifts, which included a 'Michael Kors' fragrance set and a book entitled 'Why the Poor remain poor' by Richard Okejovoh, who was also at the event.

Despite the constant resistance and opposition from her strict dad, an opportunity
to hit the
klieg lights had always been on the mind of Yvonne Jegede, and this, dates back to when she was even a child.
And as fate would have it, her long awaited dream of becoming a screen star, finally came in 2004, when she got
her first movie role in Missing Angel, which further
opened the floodgate for other movies and TV soaps in
quick successions.
Aside acting, pretty Jegede, from Edo State, who turns 26, this August, is also a model and music performer with many music videos to her credit.
In fact, her scintillating
appearance in Tuface Idibia’s monster hit,
African Queen, alongside two other beauties, is still being talked about.
In this heart-warming encounter with Daily Sun,
Jegede, who quietly disappeared from the industry’s radar for over two years, is not only back with a bang, but also wants to further expand her horizon by veering into movie production.
The boisterous entertainer also told us where she’s been, the stuffs that kept her busy, why she’s back, the big project and many more.





We would like to know what led to your almost two years absence from the movie industry?

I left Nollywood when I got admission to study in a Cyprus university in Europe. I’m in my second year studying international relations, that’s where I have been all these days.

Many of your fast growing fans are also sad that you left Nollywood at the peak of your career; do you feel the same way?

I thought about school first of all, because school is very vital. A couple of good friends spoke to me about going to school and getting a degree. But the truth is that, even if I go for ten years and come back, I’ll still meet the industry, and that was why I had to leave the time I did and I’m glad I’d left then. No regrets also, but I’m back and will apologize to my fans through your medium and my subsequent movies.

So, what brought you back?

Well, I came back to contribute more to the growth of Nollywood, based on the many ideas in my head. By remaining in school, I won’t actualize them. So, I decided to take a break from school in order to do one or two more things before going back. In essence, I’m in town to start work on my big project, a proper Niaja film with a little bit of my twist to it, and the story is mine, it’s about domestic violence. I’m also looking at getting sponsors to partner with me in the project. In fact, we are storming location soon, in the next couple of weeks to begin work.

How’s life in Cyprus?

For me, nothing much, only that you have a lot of white people working around, life is still the same, you wake up in the morning and go to school, just the regular life we live here in Nigeria. Majority of the people in Northern Cyprus, which is where I reside, are Nigerian students. We also go clubbing most weekends.




Why Cyprus?

I met someone who sold the idea to me. The school is Near East University, located in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Which was your last movie before jetting out?

It was Blood Sisters and I actually left from set straight to the airport, I did not finish my scene before traveling. Again, Nollywood has actually changed, but I would not say if its for better or worse. But we hope it comes back better because it’s a little bit shaky now. I know Nollywood will be a lot better when it eventually bounces back.

While you were away, did you miss Nollywood?

Yes, I did, I miss work, if I don’t miss Nollywood, I won’t be here, i won’t even leave school for this long. I seriously miss my acting, because its fun for me, its what I love doing, I also miss my friends, colleagues and the cameras. Honestly, I miss the lights and the drama on set.

What concerted efforts are you making towards re-launching yourself into mainstream acting in Nollywood?

Sincerely, I’m not making any effort at the moment, because of my movie project, which is what brought me home. So right now, I’m giving it my all. I’m also happy some banks and other corporate bodies are also showing interest.

Now that you are back, is marriage also on your mind?

I’m not expecting this question, but for now, no, but I’m seeing somebody at the moment. I will be 26 on August 25, 2009. Mentally, I don’t think I’m ready for marriage. May be, I will be ready when I make my first 100 million. I’m just joking, I’m back in Nollywood, but not fully back, scripts are coming my way. I’m working very hard to be better than what I left behind, not to be where I was before I left

Share more about your background with us?

Well, as most people already know, Yvonne Jegede, is from Edo State,
Agenebode to be precise. I’m in my mid
20’s, the first of nine children from my father
and the first of five from my mother. In
essence, I have 13 younger ones. I started my primary
school in Kano, later moved to Plateau state, but
completed it in Lagos. I have a diploma in Law from
Lagos State University, before going to Cyprus for further studies. I also speak Hausa fluently.
On a sober note, it’s not been easy coping with
life as a child from a separated home.
Aside acting, I’m also a model and a professional music
video performer. Most people mistake me
for a dancer, I’m not, and I only appear in
music videos as a performer. Even though I got into
the industry through music videos, my first love
remains acting, but truth is that music videos got me
more roles, made me popular and helped me to get to
where I am now.
I started acting professionally with Blaze of
Glory on TV, my role as a drug addict in the soap was
really challenging. My role in Tade Ogidan’s
Behind the Siege, was also well applauded, this was in
2004, still on TV. But my first movie was Missing
Angel same 2004, it was on that set that I got the
offer to star in Tuface Idibia’s African Queen
courtesy of Uzodinma Okpechi.
I have also worked with other acts like: Fadabasi, Mr.
Cool, D’Jinee and several others. Let me also
say it here that an uncle- veteran actor Ignis Ekwe
made my coming into Nollywood smooth and possible.
And I featured in over 20 hit movies before my departure two years ago.

What would you say were the major challenges you encountered then?

A lot, but despite the challenges, it’s been fun because
it is something I’ve always wanted to do, that
is why I’m not feeling the stress that much. In
fact, I’m still working hard to be at the top.


As a busty actress, can you bare-it-all in a movie?

I do not think so, but deep down I know I can
be a bit daring in movies?


Why not tell us more about your love like?

Why do you want to know? Well, like I told you, I have a
relationship and I think that’s all I can say
for now.

Come to think of it, did your parents endorse your odyssey in Nollywood, when you first started?

Never, my dad was never in support until I did AIDS
Patients, a movie I did for my church, he calmed down
when he saw it. He later called me again and gave me
his blessings. My mum, unlike my dad then, was so, so
excited about my coming into Nollywood.




Who are the people you look up to as role models in
Nollywood?

Plenty of them, Joke Silva, Genevieve Nnaji, Olu Jacobs and RMD, I also admire Mercy Johnson. Among them, I’ve
worked with most of them and they are all inspiring.


What breaks you down and also makes you cry?

Disappointments, heartbreaks and total rejection.

Like how many times have guys rejected you and
broken your fragile heart?

Heartbroken? May be, I’ve experienced
that like three times, but life goes on because I
bounce back very fast after the whole thing. I recover
fast and very strong when it comes to coping with
heartbreaks.

Do you believe in love?

Yes, I do and cry every time for love, because
I’m emotional and highly romantic too.

Describe yourself for us?

I’m a jovial person, not shy and fun to be
with, addictive, lovable and very happy no matter the
situation.

What is your biggest vice as a young lady?

I think I like having fun and clubbing, at least,
twice in a month.


How do you feel when people complement your beauty?

My dad started it, so, right now, it does not freak
me, because I’m used to it.

So, how do you cope with advances from the guys?

It’s not been easy but I get by.

But what part of your body trips the opposite sex most?

From head-to-toe, they all trip always, however, my boobs are the sexiest part of my body, and a whole lot of guys complement them, even
my guy. It makes me know that I’m richly
endowed.

Do you intend baring some of it in the movies soon?

No way! I can’t reveal my boobs publicly no
matter the amount involved; they are so sweet and
precious to me.
