World Music Day: COSON wants more respect for Musicians

As the world celebrates World Music Day this June 21, 2013, Nigerians have been told to set aside the day to respect talented Nigerian musicians and their counterparts worldwide by recognizing that music like every other valuable product in the world is sacred.
According to the Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria, Chief Tony Okoroji who is currently on international assignment, ‘everyone in Nigeria ought to come to terms with the fact that the music profession has become an important contributor to whatever respect Nigerians receive today across the world as our musicians continue to fly the flag of our nation high wherever they find themselves. Our country has to in turn ensure that the rights of our musicians are respected at home. It is our duty to make sure that the wanton abuse of the intellectual property of our creative geniuses in our country becomes a thing of the past and that our nation appropriately reaps the fruit of that ingenuity in continued investment and employment. Who knows from which family the next 2Face Idibia, Flavour or Banky W will come from?’

Six months in office: Ibinabo renders stewardship

Ibinabo Fiberesima
“My plan is to revamp the guild and bring back love and peace to the guild. We have had enough of these fights. We need to build up our corporate image so that people will see us and identify with us. We need to have a programme for our veterans and see to their welfare. We need to look at the issue of insurance as well as several others things. I understand that my opponent did not take the defeat in good faith but with time, I know that he will come to terms and we will work together as a team. I keep telling them that nobody can fight God, I am not God but I am a child of God.”

ACN lambasts, warns Reuben Abati

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has decried the growing propensity of presidential spokesman Reuben Abati to resort to the use of foul language against critics of the Jonathan Administration, saying such crude verbal attacks may boomerang on the presidency if left unchecked.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said there is a difference between a vicious verbal attack, which Dr. Abati now engages in with relish, and a robust response to critics of the Administration, which is what is expected of him.

Okonjo Iweala’s 46,821 ghost workers

Sincerely, I’m not moved or excited by the recent public outcry and unnecessary noise making by the federal government that it had so far identified 46, 821 ghost workers.
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, while confirming the figure during her presentation at the 2013 Ministerial Platform in Abuja, disclosed that the ghost workers were uncovered in 215 of its ministries, departments and agencies.
It’s not enough to always bamboozle and in most cases, entertain Nigerians with scary numbers of ghost workers, without helping to find lasting solutions to their unending menace.
