Harrysong returns from MTN-sponsored Grammys

Harrysong at the Grammys, US
No doubt, the 56th Grammy Awards, which held last Sunday, in Las Vegas, at the Staples Centre, had an overwhelming attendance as usual. SHOWBIZPLUS gathered that  among thousands of dignitaries, stakeholders, celebrities and media personnel at the prestigious music award was Nigerian artiste, Harrison Tare Okiri (a.k.a. ‘Harrysong’), who won the MTN-sponsored award for the Most Downloaded Callertunez of 2013, at the recent Headies Awards.

By attending the globally acclaimed best entertainment awards in company of his friend, Kingsley Okonkwo, widely known as KCEE, Harrysong could be said to be reaping the reward for hard-work and ingenuity; because his trip to Las Vegas was facilitated and sponsored by MTN, as part of the benefits attached to the recognition accorded the Delta-born artiste, for his tributary song, entitled ‘Mandela’,
at the Headies Awards, held in December 2013. The song was released shortly, after the demise of the South African icon, Nelson Mandela, and went ahead to record over 2 million downloads, in less than two weeks, on the MTN e-distribution platform, Callertunez.

Speaking, in an interview, shortly before embarking on the trip to the US, the talented singer and voice trainer expressed his joy, admitting it was a dream comes true while thanking the telecommunications and ICT company, for the opportunity to attend the glamorous event along other celebrities from around the world.

‘I’m grateful to MTN for this great opportunity to be part of the 2014 Grammys and by God’s grace, Mr Songz is ready’. He enthused.

Baring his mind on the MTN Callertunez, the artiste had this to say: ‘the platform has helped us (artistes) monitor our gains’.

Meanwhile, this year’s Grammy Awards had a few surprises as Seattle-born rapper Macklemore and Ryan Lewis became the stars of the evening. The duo bagged four awards for the Best Artist, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album for 2013; close to the duo was Daft Punk who also carted home the same number of awards.

Also, Jay Z who called the awards’ trophy ‘gold sippy cup’ was awarded the Best Rap/ Sung Collaboration for the song ‘Holy Grail’, featuring Justin Timberlake. The American rapper had earlier opened the awards ceremony alongside his wife, Beyonce, singing ‘Drunk in Love’, to an emotional audience and a mesmerized host, LL Cool J.

Other artistes on the prestigious awards’ list are: Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Darius Rucker, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Kacey Musgraves, Ben Harper, Herb Alpert and others.
